DESMOND TUTU HEALTH FOUNDATION

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation (DTHF) is situated in Cape Town, South Africa. DTHF is a registered non-profit company established in association with the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre, an accredited research centre within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town (https://desmondtutuhealthfoundation.org.za) that focuses on HIV prevention and treatment, with Prof Linda Gail-Bekker as the Chief Operating Officer. The DTHF Youth Centre provides adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services alongside educational and recreational activities for youth living in Masiphumelele and surrounding areas. Dr Katherine Gill, Masiphumelele Research Site Leader at the DTHF Youth Centre will lead the clinical activities in South Africa.

KENYA MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE (KEMRI)

KARGENO SITE, KISUMU, KENYA

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) (https://www.kemri.go.ke/) is a State Corporation established in Kenya in 1979. The Institute currently ranks as one of the leading Centres of excellence in health research both in Africa and globally. The mission of KEMRI is to improve human health and quality of life through research, capacity building, innovation and service delivery. The KEMRI Centre for Microbiology research (https://www.kemri.go.ke/centre-for-microbiology-research-cmr-nairobi/)  includes HIV and STI prevention and treatment, antimicrobial resistance testing and surveillance, mycology research among others. The VMRC4Africa program is carried out at the Kar Geno Research Policy Hub in Kisumu (https://kargeno-hub.org/) which conducts trans-disciplinary research in applied public health research, public policy, epidemiology, maternal health, social and behavioral science with a specific focus on sexual reproductive adolescent and child health. VMRC4Africa in Kisumu is led by Dr Serah Gitome, under the mentorship of Prof Elizabeth Bukusi.
