Celebrating diversity and building healthy ecosystems
for vaginal microbiome research in Africa.
VISION STATEMENT
Our vision is to improve women’s reproductive health in Africa, by developing innovative approaches to prevent and treat bacterial vaginosis (BV) that is relevant to resource-limited settings.
Our aim is to establish an African-lead “vaginal microbiome biorepository” that can be used to develop new live biotherapeutic products to treat BV, by exploiting health-promoting properties of Lactobacillus crispatus strains from women in Africa with persistently healthy vaginal communities as well as understanding disease-associated properties of the pathobionts that cause BV.
